BOD METER
Applications
This instrument is to test BOD value in surface water, sewage, industrial wastewater especially used to measure waste loadings at wastewater treatment plants and to examine the efficiency of wastewater treatment.
Principle
Designed by the respirometric method, CI-B5 BOD Tester simulates the degradation process of organics in the nature. Viz. the air in the bottle above the sample contains 21% oxygen and replenishes the dissolved oxygen used by the bacteria. Carbon dioxide is made when microorganisms oxidize organic matter in the sample. The carbon dioxide must be removed by the potassium hydroxide from the system so it does not interfere with the measurement. Pressure sensors monitor air pressure in the sample bottles. The pressure drop correlates directly to BOD and BOD is correspondence with the quantity of oxygen consumed by bacteria. The instrument will deal with this correlation and then the BOD value will be displayed on the screen.
